I have been contemplating picking up a pair but I don't want to waste $100 on something that isn't worth it.

I think you've been kinja'd. Link?

I know nothing about these, but I do know you can't go wrong with a pair of Asics - and they may be cheaper.

I haven't used them myself and they do make you look ridiculous, but everyone I know who does have them absolutely swears by them and refuses to take them off.

I wouldn't spend $100 on Kinja'd pictures.

It really weirds me out when I see people wearing these. But they probably work well.

I've heard they are pretty difficult to get used to, but once you are they are supposedly great.
You will look like a total douchenozzle if you run in them though

I dont like things between my toes, so it is a no go for me. I know some people that swear by them but they creep me out a little

My dad uses them for running, I think he really enjoys them.

I bought a pair when they first came out a few years ago to use for cross country training. I personally loved them as I try to go barefoot as much as possible, but they also made me work a little bit harder to run the same times as I would in a regular trainer so they did make me faster on race day.

I've talked to a bunch of people that switched to them, and they love them. If you're used to striking with your heel, you will need to make some adjustment to your stride.

What made them harder.

So I should wear google glass and a suit jacket with jeans while doing so?

Yea Kinja Kinjed me in kinja so I kinjaed back in the reply (I posted a link in a reply so kinja wouldn't eat it.)

I have a cousin who wears them and loves them.
I prefer to just spend the same on a good pair of running shoes.
I currently have the Men's Saucony Guide 6. They are great, and are now available for like 80 bucks (115 when I bought them). Kick ass color options too.

I have a couple of sets of x-trainers / running shoes that I use for pretty much all activities. I have decided that I want to train for a triathlon, and as I have had some rather recent knee surgeries, running is my weak point, so if the toe shoes can help me by challenging me more, I will spend the cash.

My wife's friend's douchenozzle boyfriend wears these all the time. I hate him so much that it would overlap onto anyone I saw wearing them.

Definitely buying them now!

i never really felt comfortable in toe-shoes.

The fit or just awkward to use?

Depending upon the level of barefoot / visual douchebaggery you want, another good shoe are the Vivo Barefoot. I have been wearing them for about 10 years, and have bought new ones when the old wear out. Thin soles, big toe box, very invisible to your feet.

i didn't like having shoe between my toes. and when i would ride trails i would get weeds stuck between the toes. mine weren't $100, but i tried them and wasn't impressed. it was nice to have a breeze between the toes, but quarter machine flip flops do that much better.

You are now off my Christmas card list, sucka!

I hear you on that, I have a bum knee my self.
I'm going to be training up for a half marathon at the end of the summer. And I completed Tough Mudder last summer.
What you don't realize is the Guide 6 is a stability running shoe! No one would ever know though.

I own them, and love them.

Yea, I would be looking more into them purely for running training.

I just picked up a pair of Under Armour shoes that are about the same build as those Vivo's

I really want to do a Tough Mudder too, although I wont be in shape for this years :(

I have the Dharmas and a pair of the Pure. Actually, I need to replace the Pures, they have a hole in the sole now. They are actually very grippy too. I was surprised at how much traction they had on rocky stuff.

Don't get as hung up on "in shape" for tough mudder. There's a LOT of downtime and not really a time limit on the event. we took 6 hours to get through it (they have bananas through out the course to eat lol).
If you get a team together you're good. We had 6 people in our group, my wife had just had a baby 6 months prior. only things she couldn't complete were the giant half pipe wall and the monkey bars. Only thing I couldn't complete was the monkey bars. Your team helps you through everything (and random strangers). It was AWESOME THOUGH! Please excuse obnoxious PROOF lettering lol i'm a cheap bastard.
Me at finish line:

By in shape I dont mean 'muscle man' as much as confident in my knee to withstand the abuse. I lost a whole ton of muscle mass (mostly in my leg but I was bed struck in a full leg cast for a few months so everything atrophied a bit) and need to rebuild some of it, as well as stabilized muscles before I begin to contemplate this. Plus my local run is about a month from now.

I gotcha.
We had a lot of fun at a local run "obstacle/mud run" as well that was only 4 miles.
Might be something to think about! I'm considering a tri as well but I don't have a bike/good experience with distance biking.

I just bought my first true road bike after using mountain bikes and hybrid bikes as a form of training. I used wonder how these guys could go for such distances, but having the proper equipment REALLY helps. It is an expensive investment but IMO very worth while. My first time out on the new bike I did 20 miles at an average of 13.3 mph (it was about 40% uphill) and probably could have gone more but didn't want to push my luck with a bike I wasn't used to (good thing too, I stretched a derailleur cable about 5 miles from home and lost my high gear).

I have the kmd sport and they are very comfortable, but they are hard to get used to and whatever you do don't push yourself in them when you first get them. I would recommend doing the foot workouts they have on their site as well.

Since theres not as much support or cushioning it takes a little more effort to bring your leg up each stride as your running, its not really noticeable while you're running, especially if your with others but afterwards you feel like you worked a little harder and start to notice that you're using some muscles more as compared to regular trainers.
